Born in the wild and rugged west of Ireland, BERNARD grew up in that magnificent landscape with its lakes and mountains, its wild Atlantic seascapes, its many islands and its many ruins. Connemara is a region of spectacular beauty and in summer is awash with painters and their easels at every turn.
BERNARD discovered painting as an adult and in the last 20 years has held over a dozen solo exhibitions in Australia and in Europe. As a self-taught painter, BERNARD has learned to use whatever implements come to hand; sponges, rags, fingers, knives and occasionally brushes. His style is bold and imaginative. Things are not always what they seem.
BERNARD lives and work on the Sunshine Coast hinterland where the local scenery offers much inspiration. The trees, the mountains, the lovely black-and-white cows who populate the fields around Maleny are his inspiration. BERNARD also works with mosaic and does timber sculpture.
